Five of the seven workers, one boss, and two spouses went to my buddy’s place for Thanksgiving dinner. It was a good time, and although many of us are hundreds or thousands of kilometres from our families, it still felt like home. But now it means I have to host Christmas.

Good stuff, any fights over turkey?
We’ve got an even split, light and dark meat eaters.. works out.

The only fight was that none of us knew how to carve a turkey, so we had to figure out who was going to do it.

Today I learned that Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving, and that they do it in October.
Thanksgiving, related to the harvest, is a fall celebration, so it makes sense that Canadains, being further North, would celebrate it earlier.

We always just have a chicken for Thanksgiving as it’s just my mother, brother and I and we haven’t had a huge family gathering since I was a kid. :)

When ever I’m with my wife’s family I carve the turkey. I assisted one year and have been perma-drafted into the position now. I used to help my dad when I was a kid so no biggie; and yeah, just a big chicken really.
If we go to my sister’s place, her husband does it. I help him get the bird out of the pan, get the stuffing out, and then get to relax.
When I carve I tend to swipe the best morsels for myself and/or wh o ever cooked it. And I never shoo away grabby hands, hot bird is best bird.

Yup, we’re buried under 10 feet of snow by the time the American Thanksgiving comes along. We only have maybe 2 weeks before we need to hibernate for the next 8 months.
